I wanted to say thanks to Bill, Lee, Ricky, Sam and Jeff. The great crew I have had the pleasure of fishing the Derby with since getting the Anna Lynn. These guys did not just want to win but they were committed to making a good showing on the board. So many times when tournament fishing anglers will quickly give up when not filling the cooler not these guys. They tolerated slow fishing, swarms of biting flies,100 degree heat and rough seas to once again clain a daily prize.(somewhere around 7th overall out of 150 plus boats) The team came down and chartered a few weeks ago and we agreed that the best shot at winning would be to troll all day both days.
I spoke with them again the day before the Derby and told them most of the bigger fish had moved out but we still needed to troll and wait on our one or two bites. Friday was hot and biting flies were as bad as they have ever been on the Anna Lynn. I knew where I wanted to go and ended up fishing the same area that the majority of the bigger rockfish came from. On Friday we may have had four or five bites and landed two fish one was a fat 34 incher who weighed 15.29 lbs. and the second fish was over 39 inches and skinny, real skinny, and only weighed in at 20.55 lbs. The skinny fish was good enough for a daily prize for the second time in as many years. Saturday started out nice but by 9:00 am the north winds had started to stiffen to about 20 knots or so and it got rough but even though it was nasty and we missed our only bite of the morning the crew stuck it out and we fished until the last possible second looking for a bigger fish. This crew fished long and hard and we got as many chances as the other boats in the area. I am already looking forward to next years Derby fishing with this crew we can only do better!
The local Charter Boat Captains made a great showing from the top all the way down to the daily prizes. Great job to Captain Jason Anderson and crew on the Anna C as the winners of the top Rock Fish money.
I will be heading south Thursday morning and hope to Spade fish that afternoon. Check back over the weekend for some Spade reports.
We have had the pleasure of fishing the Reedville Derby with Capt. Duby for the past two years as well as several rockfishing charters at Reedville and Va. Beach. After consistent success in the tournament and great success at Va Beach, we look forward to any opportunity to fish with Capt Duby and the Anna Lynn.

Hey Lee, great fishing with you guys again this year. It was tough keeping all 20 lines clear of grass but you guys fished hard and help work the lines like pros. I feel confident that next year we will win the rockfish division and put you guys on the stage where you belong. Thanks for all the hospitality, the sandwiches and the fly shooting lessons with the rubberbands. Sea ya next time your on the Anna Lynn.
