Jan. 16th - 23rd Fishing Report

The fishing has really been good. I took off several days (Sun.- Tues.) after a 18 day run and got back at it today. Last week we finished out our last two Henrico Fire trips and limited each time. Thursday I had Stock Lumber and customers for a day of fishing where the east winds came on early and we got lucky to bring our limit to the dock. Friday Billy Young and Friends from the Hanover area had a great day with limits up to 46 lbs that earned Troy aka "birdman" a Virginia Citation. On Saturday we had a group of guys from REC and we got into some nice fish again catching our limit. My first day back was today Weds. and we took our longest trip south about 25 miles south to catch a limit for a group from Sysco  up to 44 lbs, but the BIG news today was that the New State Record was weighed in at the Va Beach Fishing Center today the fish topped the scales at 73 lbs. It was 52 inches long and had a girth of 31 inches. The best news about this fish was that it came fromm the North. The fishing is still good and expect it to only get better with next weeks warming trend. Check the calendar for open dates.

Each day we had limits aboard by 8:30 am and enjoyed a few catch and release fish before returning to the dock. Fishing is wide open right NOW do not miss out on this great fishing!

Big Fish and Anna Lynns Places 8th in Shoot Out
Written by Capt. Duby Lowery
Sunday, 13 January 2008

The card reader for my lap top quit working and I couldn't up load pictures so lets get caught up on the happenings of the Anna Lynn. The week startd with Eric Zedaker and crew fishing with us on Jan. 7th and we crushed them with loads of big fish with the two biggest being 45 and 40 lbs to earn two anglers Virginia Citations. On Tuesday Jan. 8th Tony Oppermans crew had a great quick catch with fish up to 30 lbs. The 9th saw a group from S. B Cox company enjoying a great day of fishing with us right out front. The fish today again maxed out right at 30 lbs. The Mid-Atlantic Rockfish Shoot Out Kicked off on the 10th and the Anna Lynn Fishing Team assembled for 3 days of tournament fishing. On Thursday we ran 40 plus miles to the North lookiing for the some tournament caliber fish. Unfortunately when we finally found some fish they were not big enough to weigh. On Friday we made the decsion to stay close and try and weed through the fish for some big ones. We caught over 50 fish easily and had two citations of 44 lbs and  a 40 plus pounder to add to a thirty something fish that gave the Anna Lynn team a weight of 116 plus pounds. This had the team in 4th place after day two and with tough fishing for us on Saturday only catching a handful of fish our best three were about 95lbs  we held on to take 8th and win some money in one of the calcuttas! The team we had worked hard and well together and landed many a fish over the 3 days. The best part about this past weekend was that my wife and two kids were here several days and I got to spend some time with my family. Stacey parents were here at the Beach and watched Anna and Chloe so  Stacey and I got to go the Tournament party where we got to go out  for a night of dancing and having a good time.  Which we did and Mike Standing and his tournament crew put on a heck of a great tournament and a hell of an awards party. This is the best run Rockfish Tournament I fish.  On Sunday I had a Charter scheduled for 10 am and boy did I call this one right as soon as we pulled out of the dock I started to hear great reports from just a short distance away. When we arrived on the scene the Snead party put on their sea legs and put a good old flogging on the bass limiting out in less than a hour. The fish were snaaping despite the 20 knot NE wind. This group proved to be extremely sea worthy. Once again I would like to thank all the groups that have fished on the Anna Lynn this season and we look forward to seeing everyone soon. Check out the Calendar for open dates. Click on the pictures below to enlarge them.
